Shinji Horimura is a contemporary Japanese artist known for powerful portrayals of traditional masculinity.

Self-taught in art, he developed a distinctive visual language by blending classical materials—washi paper, sumi ink, and mineral pigments—with influences from ethnic culture and street art. His techniques include woodblock printing and stencils, giving his work a textured, layered quality.

His subjects are men rooted in rituals and myth—figures who radiate strength, vulnerability, and spiritual presence. Through bold forms and intuitive compositions, Horimura captures both the physical energy of festivals and the quiet intensity of everyday masculinity.

日本が嫌いで２５歳の時に単身ニューヨークへ。ディスプレイデザイナーとして働きながら独学で絵を描き始める。

東南アジアや中南米、アフリカなどのエスニック文化が大好きで、それらに影響されたカラフルな絵を描いていたが、

１１年間の海外暮らしを終えて帰国すると、他の国とは全く違う不思議で独特な「エスニックな日本」の虜に。

同時に慣れ親しんだ画用紙と油性色鉛筆を捨て、和紙や墨、水干（すいひ）絵具などの日本画材に変える。

祭りや神事に全身全霊で取り組む無骨な漢たちを木版画やステンシル、コラージュを組み合わせた独自のスタイルで表現している。
